The Rangers have added Ronald Guzman to the 40-man roster, and have claimed Tyler Wagner on waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks. Guzman as mentioned in a previous post was a lock to be purchased from Round Rock. I suspected that Jairo Beras and Pedro Payano could be potential candidates along with Guzman to be added to the 40-man but the Rangers but that was not the case.
The Rangers instead claimed Wagner, a 25 year old with an excellent sinker/slider combo and a borderline fringe change-up. Wager has had some success in his minimal major league stints and could potentially show the Rangers this spring that he would be capable of the #5 spot in the rotation or at least a long man/swing spot in the bullpen. That is unless the Rangers instead try to outright him as well in order to stash away at Round Rock or Frisco. He could instead get claimed again by another club.
Speaking of outright assignments, the Rangers were successful in outrighting Adrian Simpson to the minors, and has been removed from the 40-man roster. So the preceding moves, including the Andrew Cashner signing, puts the 40-man at 39.
